Townsville Sea Sunday Commemoration 2009

Sea Sunday 2009 will be commemorated on Sunday 16th August with the annual Sea Sunday Eucharist at St James’ Cathedral, beginning at 9.00 am.

We cordially invite members of the local community, especially those with a link to life at sea – from the weekend yachties to professional Merchant Seafarers and all those who have had mariners as family members.

At this service we have a Colour Party from the Townsville Naval Cadet Unit, TS ‘Coral Sea’, members of the Townsville Seafarers Association, local community and shipping industry personnel, and Port of Townsville representatives.

The address for the 2009 service will be given by Mr Col Brown, Liaison and Support Officer for the Australian Council of The Mission to Seafarers Inc, who will speak on the place of the seafarer in the industry and on the various ports in Australia in which the Mission works.

Following the service, a champagne brunch will be held in the grounds of St James’ Cathedral to which the congregation is invited.

Prayer for Seafarers

Lord God, we depend on you for life itself. We depend on seafarers for many of our daily needs. Watch over them, keep them from danger, befriend them in loneliness and bring them safely home to those they love. Amen
